Against invisible doors

Good transit systems never make you guess. The sign is huge, the arrow is unambiguous, and the color means one thing everywhere in the network. Most software does the opposite: it hides its doors and then blames you for knocking on the walls.

Signage over decoration

A label that tells you where you are is worth ten that tell you how the designer felt. Wayfinding is the discipline of spending contrast only where a decision happens — everything else recedes into the ground color.

What this means for building

• One accent for “this is a destination.”
• One line-weight for “this connects to that.”
• One marker, used once, for “you are here.”

That’s the whole system. Everything else is noise.
